Little spheres on the ground - 5 incidents

I've had a few incidents with spherical items ending up spread all over the ground. Why this is interesting to me at the moment, I cannot tell you but here goes!

1. Recently, I arrived home from shopping and somehow dropped a bag that contained quite a few cherry tomotoes. These small round red things dutifully rolled all around the garage forcing me to exert an inordinate amount of energy hunting them down. Not ideal.

2. A couple of years ago I had a similar incident involving blueberries. The difference that time was that the garage door was open, and seeing as though we live on a slope, the items started rolling down the driveway onto the street. Fun times. I didn't really need to pick the blueberries up seeing as they were organic, outside and not causing too much trouble. It was an interesting spectacle seeing them going down the hill - like slow motion.

3. Years ago, I started working at a new school and there was a beanbag in the room that I was assigned to. My co-worker told me about an incident he'd had in which all the beans ended up all over the floor. Despite this warning, the same thing happened to me on the first day and I spent quite some time trying to pick the tiny balls up. A bit embarrassing.

4. Just yesterday, I had a debacle with fruit including grapes (close to spherical). I tried to load a box of fruit onto Mum's wheelie walking. Failing to put the brakes on, the device catapulted forward resulting in the box ending up on the floor. Two shoppers helped me. I said to the shop assistant, about the grapes, "can you just sweep those up?" He said yes and offered me another bag of grapes. I said my thanks to everyone and hastily retreated indicating that I didn't really need more grapes. A bit stressful to be fair.

5. The fifth incident involved ping pong balls at a school. This was basically a fun game in a school hall involving about a hundred balls. It was very entertaining for all involved and there is something nice about all the plinking sounds. It is important to note that there has been a Myth Busters episode that demonstrates that it is impossible to injure someone by throwing a ping pong ball at them. They are a pretty safe object at the velocities that are commonly available within schools.

So that's the highs and lows of small, rolling, spherical objects. Is there a unifying and deep point to this? I will let you know if I work that out. Maybe it's something like, "stuff happens."
